Rear projection televisions are occasionally referred to as RPTVs and are often the consumer’s preference when buying a large screen TV.  The companies who are still producing rear projection televisions are JVC, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, RCA, Hitachi and Sony.  Even though some television manufacturers have quit making RPTVs and turned instead to the more costly, LCD flat panel televisions, the manufacturers which are carrying on are employing the most recent improvements created for rear projection televisions.
