Advantages of a Rear Projection Television

Rear projection televisions are occasionally referred to as RPTVs and are often the consumer’s preference when buying a large screen TV.  The companies who are still producing rear projection televisions are JVC, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, RCA, Hitachi and Sony.  Even though some television manufacturers have quit making RPTVs and turned instead to the more costly, LCD flat panel televisions, the manufacturers which are carrying on are employing the most recent improvements created for rear projection televisions

At the moment, these companies market three different types of rear projection televisions.  These are those that use CRT technology (small cathode ray tubes), LCD projector technology and digital light processing.  There are advantages and disadvantages to employing all three of the rear projection technologies, but a growing percentage of rear projection televisions currently are made using either an LCD projector lamp or digital light processing.

Rear projection televisions have proven to be the best option for large screen TVs since RPTVs will project a clear picture that is not distorted.  Before around 2004, those CRT rear projection televisions had been overwhelmingly preferred by people for the reasons that they produced high quality images and sounds, and were also affordable.  A large number of people sought these televisions instead of the LCD flat panel televisions because they were considerably more affordable, which negated the issue that rear projection units are not made to be suspended from the wall like an LCD TV.

The theory at the heart of rear projection televisions is for them to process a small picture from a digital video signal, then magnify that video to the dimensions of the screen.  Rear projection televisions are well suited to recieve any video signal and let you enjoy a crisper video than a normal television.

As well as having a state of the art image and excellent sound with a reasonably priced television, the majority of consumers who own the rear projection televisions appreciate them once they realize that they produce a digital picture.  Digital signals will be required for television transmissions after the summer of 2009, and quite a few television stations have currently ceased broadcasting analog signals.  Many customers are about to discover that anyone might easily get a new, digital ready television and spend no more than what they would pay for a digital converter box.  This is another well-received advantage to the rear projection televisions.

Even though these units are still a bit bulky compared to LCD units, these rear projection televisions will be getting thinner and more lightweight than previous units.  Although LCD televisions can claim the benefit of the flat screen, a large number of customers feel that rear projection televisions provide them with a wider range of viewing angles, especially those that use a CRT projector.  CRT rear projection televisions routinely are particularly long lasting as well because this technology has become well-refined within the past couple of years.

The DLP rear projection TV’s produce high definition pictures and a more slender appliance in comparison to the CRT projected televisions and appear to be the coming standard for rear projection home theater systems.  This is able to offer a better picture from any angle and a DMD chip which may be simple for consumers to replace, as well as home theater unit that is relatively slim and produces remarkable sound and image quality.  Should you be shopping around for rear projection televisions, you may want to seek out models that are currently using DLP technology.
